Sketch-A-Day
After I graduate next month, I am going to embark on a JoCo-inspired project. JoCo delivered a song a week for 52 weeks. Len Peralta drew a corresponding image for each song. I want to take this great concept, and make it help me become a better artist. Starting next month, I will be doing one drawing every day for 365 days. Some will be complete drawings, but some will only be sketches. It will...

My $0.02 on Tipping
Tipping waiters is generally a good thing. Keeping my glass full of soda, getting my food in a reasonably timely manner, and coping well with variables are the tried and true factors of deciding what to tip. However, I have one other factor that plays a large part for me: Interrupting. If a waiter interrupts my conversation mid-sentence repeatedly, that waiter is going to get a crappy tip. It...

How not to write
Don’t write your entire piece in single lines. It makes it very hard to read and parse. Your readers can’t tell what ideas should be grouped together. You end up causing a lot of unnecessary confusion. Paragraphs were invented for a reason. If every single line is alone, nothing stands apart. If used sparingly, the single line can evoke strong emotions.

Tawdry
Tawdry is one of my all time favorite words. It essentially means something that is flashy, but very cheap. One’s mind might go to rhinestones, but my mind ALWAYS goes to hookers. I almost exclusively use the word to describe a person or an entity. It packs so much punch.

Honestly, how do you not have the “Fuck you, Paypal. I’ll browse how I’ll please.” reaction? They are trying to force browser developers to bend to their will. From how EV was explained to me, it is a way to stomp out smaller companies that can’t afford it. While it does showcase safe sites, it does make it harder for smaller companies to compete.

This is why I don’t allow myself to watch just any sci-fi. After many years of ignoring the “Brown Coat” wankers, I finally watched Serenity. I had no idea that it was a Space Cowboy Vs. Zombie Pirate epic. At the very least, an interesting blend of genres. I ponied up the extra $5 to buy the two disc set, so now I’m going to watch all of the extra content. I liked the...

Camino 1.6 Released →
I want to like Camino, but every time I have tried it, it has given me heartburn. Here are my thoughts of the recent release: 1. They FINALLY support inline search. It took them forever to get away from the godawful search box interface. Jesus Christ. Safari’s “Spotlighting” method is way better, though. 2. Doesn’t pass Acid2, let alone Acid3. Fail. 3. No built-in RSS...

It’s not so bad →
Well… I both agree and disagree. Just because you didn’t have problems doesn’t mean people with other up-to-par hardware configurations aren’t having major issues. One of Microsoft’s biggest strengths AND weaknesses is that they have to support a lot of different hardware configurations. On the other hand, I do believe that the knee-jerk “ZOMG TEH VEESTA SUX AND XP IZ WAI BETTER” chatter doesn’t...

Asshole Bosses: A Life →
I certainly don’t have “Fuck you money,” but I am luckily in a situation where I never ever have to put up with complete assholes. If a boss were to ever treat me in a way that one would hesitate to treat a dog, I am in a position to put in my two-week notice that very moment. That isn’t to say that I would want to do that, but it is very nice to know that I have the...

I’m getting cold feet about getting a job as an ad designer. The negative self talk is rearing its ugly head, and I don’t know if I have the balls to work through it. “What if I’m not good enough?” Well, judging by the last two pieces I’ve churned out, I’m not sure if I am good enough.
