Finally got off of my ass…

I finally did it. I registered to vote. After a couple years of dreading it, I had to finally choose a side. Believe me, it was not an easy decision to make. It certainly was not arbitrary like some people make it out to be.

I searched high and low for a party that matched my opinions exactly, but I found that there is no such entity. I briefly considered starting my own party, but the possibility of having to explain this theoretical party truly scared me. Next, I contemplated registering as an independent voter, but I felt terrible about that. It feels to me like a cop out. If you’re happily registered as an independent, good for you. However, I know in my heart that it isn’t right for me.

I finally decided on siding with the Republicans. There is a large group of Republicans that I don’t like (Read: Evangelicals), but there is a large portion of policy that I do agree with. I would be remiss not to mention that I have a large amount of respect for both Bob Dole and John McCain. I kind of model most of my political views after some amalgam of the two of them.

In summary: I drew out a fairly simple process over a two year period because I am scared of choosing the wrong one.
