Well… I both agree and disagree. Just because you didn’t have problems doesn’t mean people with other up-to-par hardware configurations aren’t having major issues. One of Microsoft’s biggest strengths AND weaknesses is that they have to support a lot of different hardware configurations. On the other hand, I do believe that the knee-jerk “ZOMG TEH VEESTA SUX AND XP IZ WAI BETTER” chatter doesn’t have much merit.
As for the your blatant use of Artie MacStrawman, I think that is totally out of left field. Almost every criticism of Vista in particular that I have heard is coming from Windows users. That’s not to say that some Mac folk haven’t made potshots, but on the whole, I would wager the vast majority of it is windows in-fighting.
“… [an] OS is an OS, if it does what you need it to do, then good enough.” Well… I don’t really subscribe to that. For example, a 1980 junker will get me from point A to point B, but it drives like shit, and costs $150 to fill up at the pump. Just because something can complete a task doesn’t mean that its performance is acceptable. Productivity and user interface are important to keep in mind. That said, I don’t find Windows to necessarily equate to a 1980 junker. In sum: Vista is fine for most people, Windows people are the ones bitching, and merely completing tasks isn’t good ’nuff.
