About Chrome

I do not have a computer running Windows, so I have not experienced Google’s foray into the browser space first hand. However, I have seen some things that worry me:

John Gruber has linked to a comparison of the Chrome version of Webkit to the Safari version of Webkit. Taking a step backwards in the quality of the rendering engine is a surefire way to turn me off to your implementation.

Minimalism is a good starting point, but not at the price of degrading the user interface. I’ll go with Google until the first time the pop-up contextual status bar pisses me off.

The OS X version is less of a priority than the Windows version. The official Google Mac blog says that the dev team wants to make careful implementations of the browser on each platform. While this makes sense on the surface, it also points out which platform is the priority, and which can wait. I’m fully against half-assed ports, but the choice of the originating platform speaks volumes about their priorities.

I’ll certainly give it a go when they see fit to release a Mac version, but I remain very skeptical. I am very finicky when it comes to web browsers.
