About Cylons

I recently started a NetFlix subscription. I am now catching up on the movies and television shows that everyone has told me to watch. Out of all of the other programs, Battlestar Galactica is unquestionably the most rhapsodized.

I “buffered” the mini-series and the first season, and I blew through them all in a few days. Now I am working through season two. I am surprised at how compelling it is. The story is fairly generic (Robots take over. They kill humans. Humans don’t want to be killed.), but the characters are unbelievably interesting. I find myself involved in the minutia much more than the whole robots-killing-humans thing. I actually care about the characters. Well done.

I love Bear McCreary, the composer, but I am less than impressed with the main theme. For all I know, he might have had to work with the theme from the original series. Regardless, it is no good. A good main theme needs to be hummable. There is no driving melody in that damn song. That bugs me, but the rest of the score is suited very well.
